Student Reviews:
"Thank you very much for this course and your complete and helpful responses to my questions. Not only did it ease my mind about how I am helping my daughter with her career, you also gave me some good information that I had not discovered yet. Although my daughter will spend the next seven years in the training and networking phase of her career (I want her to finish college!), the information here is all very valuable and she should definately be ready to take on Hollywood when she graduates! Thank you again."
"This was a very helpful and inspiring course!"
"I was highly impressed with my instuctor's knowledge, and would take the course again in a heartbeat."
"Thanks so much for offering this class... even though I'm not an actor or aspiring actor, I learned SO much that I'm hoping to be able to incorporate into my writing career. I think that armed with the knowledge in this class, anyone with talent and true desire to act will definitely have a heads-up on the competition."
"I am very pleased with the direct approach and the REAL information that is being given in this class!"
"I wanted to compliment you for the time you took to answer all of my questions so thoroughly. I thank you and appreciate all that you have done to make this class as enjoyable as I found it to be."
"That was fun!"
"I learned more from Marketing Tools for Actors than I could have learned anywhere else. Lana Veenker is an instructor who initiates discussion with each lesson with a question or assignment that keeps you interested and interacting."
"I can't tell you enough how much I have enjoyed taking this course with you. I feel so fortunate to have literally stumbled across this class, never imagining that someone with your extensive experience would be slightly interested in sharing all of this priceless information with others like myself, who simply haven't had a clue how to start making their dreams become a reality. For now, I am content with acting in theatre and being involved with all aspects of the production while gaining all the necessary experience and education I'll need to market myself seriously later on, albeit I am discovering I have this propensity to critique for hours with my theatre going friends, all the plays that we go to see. Who knows, Lana, I could turn out to be a respected critic of the stage! All I know is that I am having fun investigating the endless possibilities for myself in this industry by utilizing the tools and resources afforded to me in your class. I also have discovered that it's not the end of the world for me if I never become rich or famous because I don't need that kind of recognition to make me happy. I create my own happiness and success with projects I choose to become involved with that bring me fulfillment as a person. Time will only tell where my efforts will take me. In the meantime, I thank you for taking us under your wing so to speak. You have done a wonderful job in the development of this course and just so you know, I added you to my contacts database."
"I want to thank you so very much for guiding my dreams into a more professional approach. I have been wanting to be a part of the acting world for so long, but didn't know where to begin. I would frequently ask friends or family what I should do to get involved. I knew they didn't know much more about where to begin than I did. I wasn't moving in any direction. Now, I plan to enroll in Acting I at the college. I also want to improve the skills I already have. I'm going to look for a good voice coach since I can sing and play guitar. In the future, instead of coming across as a young naive girl in auditions, I will have the tools you gave me to be the confident talent and succeed. Thanks again for all of your reputable information."
"Thank you for showing us such a professional-looking resume. I was procrastinating for about a year whether to find a principal agent, then I decided to use your resume design and give it a try. It looked great! I just received my first phone call from a principal agent."
"Since taking your course I understand how important it is to know how to prepare and the protocol. Thank you for taking the time to teach your expertise to us the uninitiated. This is practical and valuable advice and training. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
"Thank you, Lana, for confirming what it was that I was feeling about my present marketability and for the priceless advice. There is much preparation before I would consider engaging myself in an important, possibly life-changing audition. What is so satisfying is that I have been provided with unbelievable tools to help me accomplish any goal I set out to conquer. Thank you!"
"Thank you so much for very well constructed and thoughtful course. I have been acting since I was 15, but I didn't really decide to make a serious move until 4 years ago. I am truly a late bloomer. I have done some film and tv over the last few years, but I still didn't have handle on where I was going. I love to act. Always will. I just celebrated my 50th birthday and my dream is still alive. thank you very much, I felt like I needed some new tools in my arsenal and you have provided them. See you in the movies!"
"I just got the lead in an independent short film! Thank you."
"Lana, Thank you for all of the information you have so generously made available to budding and veteran actors. I trained in NY 32 yrs. ago w/Meisner, did some off-off bway and then my life took another path and in the last 7 or so yrs. have gotten back into the fray doing theatre. I met a coach who said I'd be perfect for film work because I have "that look"-- I really wish I had learned just a portion of the info you are giving now when I was just starting out!"
"Once again, the information you are imparting is so very valuable and it makes me wish I was 18 again and just beginning on this journey."
"Since I've started this class, I've pushed up my game and have gone on three auditions and have been cast in one, so far. My confidence has really soared because I am armed with good, solid advice. Thank you."
"This course has given me more information than the past five books I've read on 'making it' in this business. Your advice is intelligent, well researched (well you ARE living it!) well written and on and on. How come you haven't written a book? Never mind, if other actors are in the dark about the acting process/business--then I have a better chance having armed myself with all of this knowledge! THANK YOU!"
"I have to say I've learned a lot in this course! Very interesting to read and now that I now a little bit more about the market i'm ready start dealing with it. I have no longer any doubt about headshots, resume's and auditions. I'm ready to take some extra acting classes and to give my dreams a shot... And remember: 'Shoot for the moon and you will land among the stars' - Mark Twain!"
"I have learned a great deal in this course about how to organize my acting career. And it seems like all my questions were answered so I can see more of the situation instead of just wondering, "what if..." Even though my family takes much of my time, I am happy to find that I may be able to do acting work on a smaller scale. Thanks for such an interesting class. Good luck with your Acting work and teaching. I've enjoyed all of this."
"I've enjoyed the class. I thought a knew a fair amount about the business of show business before this class, but I learned so much more! It always helps to have expert advice. This course has confirmed what I already knew -- I want to work in the entertainment industry. It has taught me that there are other things I can be doing in the field while pursuing my acting career. It has made me even more determined to get out of my miserable job situation. How can I be happy with myself and project confidence in my abilities when I am miserable? So I have stepped up my job search as well as set certain career goals."
"I took this course to see just what it takes to become an actor. The course met my needs. I printed all the lessons, quizzes, and final exam for my files. There was good information to be used as a resource."
"My daughter is very interested in an acting career, and she isn't old enough to take this course, I took it to find out what we should expect. It was very informative. The instructor did a great job of dispensing the information and she blended in some humor and shared some of her experiences."
"I have learned so much more than I ever learned in my college courses. I will use the tools provided by this course to help guide me along my way to success, hopefully. I wish all of you the best of luck. Thanks, Lana for all of your help!"
"This course has been a tremendous help. I've learned so much about the acting business. The lessons were so clearly and well written and filled with information. Thank you very much Lana."
"Now that this course has ended, I am going in with my eyes wide open, knowing what to expect and what not to expect. Most importantly, from a beginner's perspective, I now know how to find the portal into the acting world (to me it has been in the past a hidden portal!)."
"Lana was a great, knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructor. She answered my and other students' questions in a timely manner and with a respect for each student's experience levels. The course was written very well, clearly, concise, and filled with detailed informational content. The instructor was personable, encouraging, and informative about inside details of the industry. Without taking this course, I would never have known many to do's and not to do's about the industry. I would definitely recommend this instructor and would take another course offered by her. Write a book on the acting business, Lana! :) It was great! Thank you very much!!!"
"I've learned how much I want this. I grew up in a way that did not encourage my gifts. Ah, to be 18 again. . .and to have had this information to help guide me. Life has taught me much, all useful experiences for the stage, if I had only known then, what I know now. . . The path to the dream was missing before I took this course. I could not see the steps to take. I have a much clearer vision today of where I need to go, what I need to do, if I choose to pursue acting as a career. I wonder though, about "happenstance". I've met some people along the way (in community theatre) who have encouraged me and helped me to grow. I can't help believing that the same would be true once I commit professionally. . . Thank you, Lana. The course was a pleasure. Thank you too for the extra answers and for the critique of the materials I have put together thus far."
"I have learned so much from this class. The information in the 12 lessons is so valuable, that I have printed out each lesson, and the binder is now a permanent installment to my acting reference books. You are now in the likes of "Audition" by Michael Shurtleff! I have learned about where I will be comfortable with my acting career. I want to add an extra "Thank You!" for reviewing my headshots. I am going to have new headshots done, and I will be well armed with the information that you gave me. Thanks for taking time out of your day to look at them, and giving me clear ideas about which direction to head in. I have a few acting friends that would benefit from this class, and will be suggesting to them the same. Thanks again for your time and information. Oh, a p.s. I was doing some decorating in my house, and in my bedroom I just stenciled a quote from Henry David Thoreau - "Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.""
"Lana, Thanks so much for teaching this class. I like going "behind the scenes" of Hollywood, and this class definately took me behind the scenes.... Keep up the good work, and good luck with your career."
"I have to thank you, Lana. I learned a huge amount that I wouldn't have guessed was part of acting until I was face-to-face with it. I showed it to my actor friend/mentor (she's also my best friend) and she was impressed with all the practical information you teach. And how's this: we're both doing roles in a local independent film! She took me to a rehearsal and the director auditioned me for an open role and I GOT IT! I can't wait! Thanks again. I'm so glad I took this course. Break a leg to all!"
"Lana's class was excellent. Extremely informative from someone who has been in the Acting field to those considering it. She gave step-by-step advice of what to do if you have the interest in pursuing an Acting career or doing it for fun in the community. Would recommend this class to everyone. Would take other similiar classes from Lana."
"I have a clearer idea about who I am. I have learned that I enjoy doing other things besides acting, that I can have a fullfilled life just acting for fun. Acting gives me the chance of becoming a better human being through all the lessons drama teach us, and also I find the opportunity to conquer my fears and open my mind. I want to keep improving my skills and still looking for some opportunities in the mid-to-long term, but I want to be always a very small business owner because I want to walk in the streets and feel free to take pictures, to watch, to eat wherever I want, also to sleep enough and enjoy the my life-style. My goals are focused on acting for fun and working in my photography career. I am using your goals lesson for all of my activities. Thank you for answering my questions, and thank you for the course. I think only a sensitive and observant actress could have designed a course like this, sharing your experiences to save me time and hard times."
"The course was perfect. The teacher was sensitive and professional."
"As a high school drama teacher,I found the course a valuable resource of information for me to use in guiding my students that are thinking about acting as a career. So often those of us in education tend to overlook the practical for the academic. I think all aspiring theater students could benefit from this course."
"Lana, Thank you for one of the most exciting, informative courses I have ever taken. You covered so much more information than I expected. You were concise, consistent and funny as well. I was a sponge and I hope I got it all. Thank you for such a dynamic class!"
"I am very, very happy I took the course. Now that I have a whole lot of answered questions from someone that I can actually google, read their credentials, and still be impressed by them, I am going to continue to do what I've been doing at a more accelerated pace because now I can weave through the "slow moving traffic" that I know was holding me up. And again thanks a lot."
"This course is beyond words. I've learned more here than I have from all classes, workshops, word of mouth, and yahoo groups all together. I cannot thank you enough."
"I was taking another course and found this class by accident on the course catalogue. I'm so glad I did, I have no regrets and will take away so much from this, thank you so much!"
"This is the best thing I have ever done for my daughter, she just does not know it yet. The course was perfect and I was able to modify and teach her along with me. She is more excited than ever to complete more classes and further her experience before going out for more auditions. This has been a blessing to me. She would still like to audition, but does not expect to be a "star" without the hard work and dedication it takes. Thank you for the straight forward truth and the goal setting we all need in every day life. This class tools could be used in any industry that requires goal setting and networking. I would and will recomend this course to any one who asks me for advice on acting as a career."
"I felt the instructor had a great sense of the industry and related that very well to the class. I also felt the instructor did a great job in answering questions without embarrassing the student."
"I really, really enjoyed the course."
"WOW! I have to admit that the time went FAST! I feel that I have learned a great deal with this course and have a true understanding of what it will take to achieve my goals. I am truly going to recommend this course to anyone who asks. Lana, thank you very much for you truly have been a great inspiration."
"I am thankful to find a course like this."
"Thank you for a great course! I know it will be a priceless reference!"
"The information you presented confirmed my previous knowledge and informed me of so many NEW things I had not yet learned. I liked the way the lessons were set up with the quizzes at the end. I also found that the assignments helped me to know just HOW to go about reaching those goals which were set at the beginning of the class. Overall, this class was exactly what I had hoped it would be and more!!! Thank you."
"This class gave me information that I never received from the classes I took in college. It directed me towards the areas that I need to focus on and what I need to do before I even audition."
"I am SO glad I signed up for this course! I feel much more confident and assured in the steps I need to take in order to make my career dreams come true. I plan to reference the lessons from this class for years to come!"
"I don't know if anyone will get to read this, but I just wanted to say HURRAY! I just got a call yesterday, and I am going to be in an independent film called Gretchen! YAY! It's officially an extra role, but there are only about three other extras, so I definitely won't be lost in the crowd! I'm just excited about being on a film set again."
"Uma writes: I got a supporting role! It was my first musical audition, and first musical and I get a few solos. Just to add to that I was a newcomer to the theatre program."
"Thanks for all of your amazing insight, Lana!"
"Thank you very much. I knew nothing about the acting world when I entered this course. Now that I have completed and passed with flying colors, I feel that I can tackle what's going to come in my journey as a actress/model. Nothing can stop me . . Thank you again."
"I appreciate everything you taught me, I'll make sure to keep every lesson, and if I'm lucky enough to follow the right path, our paths may intersect so that we may do work with one another. Thanks again."
"This was a really great course and extremely helpful and beneficial. The instructor was very knowlegable and hence, very informative. The supplementary materials (Web sites, etc.) were GREAT. Thank you!"
"Thank you for all of the great info, I intend on using all of it."
"This course is very valuable. With all of your information, I know that I'm on the right track with the workload as an actress, and yet I'm finding that I have more to go. I would recommend it to anyone who is fresh out of college. After I graduated, I didn't have this information and pretty much learned by trial and error."
"I loved Lana the instructor - she is brilliant!"
"Thank you very much for a terrific course!"
"This is a great class. Very informative. Very nice teacher."
"Thanks for the info, Lana. I'm going to miss this class. You are the BEST!!!!"
"I think a lot of people taking acting classes through a university would be very interested in this course. There isn't any sort of informative class like this offered through the course of our 4 yr drama degree program. I think this class was excellent, and I would recommend it to any one wanting to give acting a try. Already taking this course has helped me out so much. I can't imagine what a fool I would have made out of myself when going to auditions and bumping into industry people. This weekend I went to an audition and the next day I was doing background work for a music video and who was there? The director from the audition from the day before. Thanks to this course, I could talk to him intelligently about his work and mine without begging for a job while making a perfect contact! Anyways, it made me pretty happy to see before my eyes how much this course has taught me on so many levels. I feel like I have an upper hand now in my local market. Thank you!"
"This class has helped me a lot! I will also spread the word. I feel confident & will be able to speak intelligently to filmmakers, producers, directors, casting directors, photographers, and so on. Thank you, you're the best!"
"Thanks for your input--I'm learning a lot from the class and wish I had taken it a couple years ago!"
"Thank You Lana, you have been a great professor! I feel confident to pursue my professional career in acting. You're the best!"
"Thanks for all your advice Lana, I'm finding this course extremely helpful!"
"THIS COURSE IS FANTASTIC. I've already recommended it to several people. A lot of the stuff I already knew from 3 years doing this, a lot I didn't know, and a lot I thought I knew but found out I didn't know! :-) It's been a great course. I truly wish I'd taken it 3 years ago. Thank you for your wonderful advice on so many topics. One of the most useful courses I've ever taken."
"I've learned more from your class than I ever dreamed. You did a great job--way above and beyond your call to duty. I'm very pleased. This is the first internet course I've ever taken. Thanks for a wonderful experience."
"I second the other opinions about your course--I found it invaluable and truly learned things that were unexpected. You took the time to give us individual attention and answered any questions or concerns expertly. I too have recommended this course to other actors and feel that it has given me great direction to guide my children. Surprisingly many of the lessons will also help my son and his metal band with their future plans! Lana, thanks again for sharing your expertise!"
"I just want to express my heartfelt thanks to you for all the great knowledge, experience, and advice you have shared in this course. I'm sorry I had none to give you--I am a 20 year banker. A few years ago I almost lost my life. That experience got me to thinking about things I was always too shy and private to share with others--I've written poems, short stories, and scripts since I was 12 years old. It is my goal to publish some of my writings and to direct a movie script I've written. One step in my personal preparation is to act in a movie so I can see the directing experience from the perspective of those being directed. That is why I took this course. My college professors of recent years have been encouraging me to come out of my shell for a long time--I hope to do this before I die. Lana, thanks so much for all the extras you've given us in this course."
"This is a wonderfully informative course taught by an experienced casting director. I received a great deal of personalized attention from Lana and truly enjoyed this class."
"One of the best courses I've taken. Keep it on your roster. Lana is great, and I already HAVE recommended the class to other people - and will continue to do so."
"This was an excellent course! I was very pleased with the information it contained and its presentation was clear and well-organized."
"I have really enjoyed this class and will recommend it to other parents interested in helping their children in the industry. I don't know where my son will go from here, but he is still asking when he is going to do another commercial, so we will see what we can do for him. I have learned a lot of things that I can utilize in the future to help my son. I feel more prepared in speaking on behalf of our son since taking this class, so THANK YOU LANA!"
"Lana was a wonderful instructor and we are lucky to have someone with her knowledge of the industry. I will recommend this course to others."
"This is a great course and I would recommend it to every actor I know."
"My granddaughter wants to pursue Musical Theatre and I thought I should know the ropes. This course has been a wealth of information to me. I appreciate the people she is learning from at her high school and I know so much more than before. I think she is ready to take this course with a director that teaches "on camera" techniques and is used on a public program as an extra (in April) and then start looking at Disneyland auditions and maybe a summer job singing, etc. I feel like this course has taught me how to approach these endeavors the right way so there will be success. Thank you so much for your teachings."
"Hi Lana! Thank you again for all your tips, advice, assistance, etc! This has been so much fun. After looking at many samples and reading about local photographers, I've picked someone to take my headshots and will be doing that next weekend. I'm so excited. He told me that he's worked with many of the agents in the area, so he knows what kind of looks they like. I've also found many casting call lists where I've added my email address, and I check other advertisements often. I'm going to start sending out my headshots and resumes to get myself out there! I'm working on a schedule to get myself to where I can be working part time from home by the summer, so I can devote even more time to pursuing this career. And I am hoping to enroll in a camera acting class very soon! This course gave me the push I needed. The tools you gave us will help us all so much. I have all my lessons so I can continue to read through them and keep up the energy I have right now to pursue my goals. Thanks again to you, and I hope everyone else in the course keeps on striving for whatever their goals are."
"I always looked forward to my weekly lessons for this course. The information is very valuable! Lana is fantastic. She helps you get things sorted out so you know where you need to start, and she guides you through what you need to know to get yourself out there and follow through without feeling lost! Excellent course!"
"Lana did a great job giving us very useful information to help get our careers going in this industry. I would recommend her to anyone!"
"This has been a very inspiring class for me. The entertainment industry has always been such a mystery, now I feel I could understand and navigate much better. I like knowing ahead of time what the pitfalls and rewards might be. Thank you, Lana."
"Lana has made a huge difference in how I am approaching the world of acting. I feel prepared and realistic, but also optimistic and sure that there is a place for me! Thank you!"
"This class is great- thank you for all of your wise advice and insight. i really enjoyed it."
"This course was absolutely AWESOME! I never knew there was so much to this business. I have gained so much respect for all that are involved in it. My interest in the field has increased because of this class. I can't wait to see its results."
"I think at the beginning of the course I didn't realize how serious you need to be about your career, and really treat it as a business. Now I have a much clearer idea about the process. Also, I think this class gave me the push I needed to enroll in an acting class, and believe me I totally love it and am so glad that I have started in the right direction. Thank you, Lana, for your thoughtful and helpful answers to our questions in the discussion area! I really enjoyed this course!"
"Thank you so much for this course!! I have learned so much more than i would have in a whole year!! I will certainly use all the information you have given me to the best of my ability. I feel like i have grown as a person as well. Thank you so much and keep up with the wonderful work!"
